Louisiana FIRST LEGO League Jr State Expo Registration

The culminating event for the FIRST LEGO League Jr. experience is an Expo!  While it is not required for teams to participate, an Expo is a fun, non-competitive, way for teams to show off all the hard work they have done in the season, connect with other teams, be inspired, be challenged, and most of all be CELEBRATED!   Throughout the morning at the Louisiana State Expo, the teams present their project to reviewers, participate in activities with other teams, and receive an award at the closing High Five Award Ceremony.

The Louisiana State FIRST LEGO League Expo for the Boomtown Build Season will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Jesuit High School in New Orleans from 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM. Registration fee for the Expo is $25 per team.

REGISTER QUICKLY!!! Participation is limited to the first 39 teams that complete the registration process. Teams registering after NOVEMBER 22, 2019, IF space is available, may not receive awards during the High Five Ceremony at the Expo (Award will be shipped later).  Teams must be nationally registered & fees paid with FIRST prior to registering for the Expo.

There are two steps in the registration process:

DO NOT use the link on your national team dashboard.  If you register on the national website, we will not see it!

2021 FIRST LEGO League Qualifying Tournament Registration

INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLYING TO A TOURNAMENT:

Welcome! You may participate in any ONE of the tournaments listed below, but we ask that you also identify a 2nd preference in case your first choice is full. When you register for a tournament below, you are “applying” to that tournament.  You will be accepted into that tournament on a first-come-first-served basis if your national team registration is paid.

There are currently four in-person tournaments and one remote tournament being offered. If you select the remote option, we ask for your input on the ability of your team to participate in a remote judging session, as we want each team to have the best opportunity possible to showcase all of their hard work. There is also an option for a team to select “CANNOT COMMIT YET due to IDA”. Please select this option if your intent is to participate in a tournament, but you are not yet back in your school or your team has not yet been able to meet. It will allow us to tentatively plan for an additional tournament if we know there is interest.

The LA FIRST LEGO League State Championship will be held on Saturday, January 22nd, at Jesuit High School in New Orleans and is open to 60 teams who are awarded advancement from the LA FIRST LEGO League Qualifying Tournaments listed below.

Registration fee for a tournament is $35. PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHECK TO A TOURNAMENT HOST UNTIL YOU ARE OFFICIALLY ACCEPTED INTO THAT TOURNAMENT – see Tournament Assignment List.

2021 Louisiana FIRST LEGO League Team Hardship Grant Registration

HARDSHIP GRANTS ARE AVAILABLE to aid teams that would otherwise be unable to participate in FIRST LEGO League without some assistance. In addition to FIRST typically providing a limited number of Hardship Grants to each region,  we also forward applications to Friends of FIRST, who have so graciously funded Louisiana teams in the past. And we often have additional anonymous donors we can turn to.

If you are interested in applying for a Hardship Grant for your FIRST LEGO League CHALLENGE (ages 9-14) or EXPLORE (ages 6-10) team, please complete this application. For CHALLENGE teams, the grant will pay for a maximum of 2 of the 3 registration items (robot, registration, field set). For EXPLORE (Junior) teams, 1 or both items may be chosen. The most important consideration in the grant application is your explanation of the hardship. If available, it can be very helpful to include information on your school’s statistics for free and reduced lunch, but it does not necessarily eliminate your application if you don’t have it. The DEADLINE to be considered for the first round of these Hardship Grants is Friday, July 30th. A second round will be considered if funding is still available.

ALL of the items below must be filled out to be eligible. AND you must have a team number, which can be last year’s number for returning teams. If you are a new team, creating a team profile in the registration system at http://www.firstinspires.org will generate a temporary team number. To begin, create an account (user name and password), and it will take you to your “dashboard”, where you can create a team. DO NOT PAY FOR YOUR REGISTRATION IF YOU ARE REQUESTING THE GRANT FOR REGISTRATION!!! The grant cannot reimburse already paid expenses.

Questions regarding the hardship grants or this form may be addressed to the LA FIRST LEGO League Challenge Partners: Dr. Michelle Sanchez or Dr. Annette Oertling.

2019 Bayou Regional Breakfast Reservation Form

Please let us know if you plan to join us for breakfast, as it will be provided at the hotel next door and reservations are required. The Bayou Regional meal policy is that full-day volunteers are provided with breakfast and lunch with a snack mid-morning and afternoon. Part-time volunteers (1/2 day) will be provided with one meal and snack, so someone who works the morning shift can choose either breakfast OR lunch. When you check in at the volunteer table each day, you will be given the appropriate wrist bands (or tickets for part time volunteers) for access to breakfast at the hotel next door and/or lunch at the Bayou Regional Volunteer Lounge. Judges will be eating in a separate location to facilitate deliberation (no wrist bands necessary!).
